Teaching Jobs in Maharashtra 2026

Maharashtra has one of India's largest school education systems, with over 1.10 lakh government and aided schools managed by Zilla Parishads, Municipal Corporations, Tribal Welfare departments, and the state DSE (Directorate of School Education). This creates continuous demand for qualified teachers across all levels.

ZP (Zilla Parishad) Teachers are the backbone of rural Maharashtra's primary and upper primary education system. The 36 ZPs periodically recruit Primary Teachers (Class 1–5) and Upper Primary Teachers (Class 6–8). Eligibility requires D.Ed (Diploma in Education) or B.Ed along with Maha TET qualification. Recruitment is merit-based, with marks from D.Ed/B.Ed and TET combined into a merit list.

Maharashtra TET (Maha TET) is conducted by MSCEPB (Maharashtra State Council of Examinations) and is a prerequisite for primary and upper primary teacher posts. Paper I covers Class 1–5, Paper II covers Class 6–8. Candidates with CTET qualification may also apply for state school posts as per current rules.

KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) conducts a national competitive examination for PRT (Primary Teacher), TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) posts. Maharashtra has over 300 KVS schools. KVS posts are central government jobs with 7th CPC pay scales and all-India transfer. A KVS teacher's in-hand salary ranges from Rs. 44,000 to Rs. 1,00,000+ depending on level.

NVS (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti) recruits TGT and PGT teachers through its national exam. Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential schools for talented rural students. There are Navodaya schools in all 36 districts of Maharashtra. NVS posts also carry central pay scales.

Maharashtra Tribal Welfare Residential Schools (Ashram Schools) and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) provide teaching job opportunities specifically in tribal areas of Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan. These are government posts with good pay, accommodation, and job security in areas like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, and Nashik tribal regions.

For college-level teaching, SET (State Eligibility Test) conducted by Savitribai Phule Pune University is the requirement for Assistant Professor posts in government-aided colleges in Maharashtra. UGC NET is also accepted.
